Environmentally Friendly, Compostable Bioplastic Bags

Plastic pollution is wreaking havoc on our planet, and single-use plastic bags are one of the most significant contributors, so it’s no surprise that many local and state governments are banning them.

South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory have already introduced bans on plastic bags. Victoria, Western Australia, and Queensland have also committed to banning plastic bags by 2018. New South Wales has not yet indicated that a ban will be introduced. Not sure how it affects you? Read our blog or view our bag ban infographic to find out more about the ban in your local area.

While we can all agree that there is a need to reduce plastic shopping bag consumption, there are some instances where lightweight single-use bags are still required for hygienic reasons. Plus, compostable lightweight, single-use bags can be useful for collecting organic waste – like home compost or food scraps – as these bags will decompose in a home composting system.

Our bioplastic bags range includes checkout bags and bin liners, and provides an eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastic bags. BioBags are made using Ecopond, a starch-based bioplastic that is certified commercially compostable (AS4736)and home compostable (AS5810) to Australian Standards.

Aside from the obvious environmental benefits, using compostable bags reduces greenhouse gases, returns nutrients back to the earth and improves soil quality, and costs less than sending waste to landfill.

Home or council composting is not an option? We also offer our own composting service, so check to see if it's available in your area.
